Li Hing Mui Mango Margarita Recipe – Hawaiian Cocktail Twist

Li Hing Mango Margarita in glass with limes in front

Looking for a cocktail that’s tangy, tropical, and unforgettable? This Li Hing Mui Mango Margarita recipe combines the sweet flavor of ripe mango with the salty-sour kick of Li Hing Mui powder. It’s a Hawaiian twist on the classic margarita that’s perfect for summer BBQs, beach days, or your next happy hour.

Li Hing Mui (salted dried plum) is a local favorite in Hawaii, often sprinkled on fruit and snacks. Here, it adds a sweet-salty rim that balances perfectly with tequila, lime juice, and mango puree.

Recipe Card (keep original format but polished)

Prep Time: 5 minutes
Yield: 1 drink

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ oz tequila (silver works best)

  • ½ oz orange liqueur (Cointreau or triple sec)

  • ¾ oz fresh lime juice

  • 1 ½ oz Hawaiian mango puree (or ripe mango blended)

  • 1 oz simple syrup (adjust to taste)

  • Ice

  • Li Hing Mui powder (for rim)

Instructions:

  1. Add Li Hing Mui powder to a small plate. Run a lime wedge around the rim of your glass and dip it into the powder to coat.

  2. In a blender, combine tequila, orange liqueur, lime juice, mango puree, and simple syrup with ice. Blend until smooth.

  3. Taste and adjust sweetness if needed.

  4. Pour into your prepared glass and garnish with a lime wedge or mango slice.

Extra Section: Cocktail Variations

  • Spicy Li Hing Margarita: Add fresh jalapeño slices or a dash of chili powder for a sweet-heat kick.

  • Frozen Style: Use frozen mango chunks instead of puree for a thicker, frosty drink.

  • Lilikoi Twist: Swap mango puree for passion fruit (lilikoi) puree for another island flavor.

Fun Fact Box
🌺 Did you know? “Margarita” means daisy in Spanish. It’s one of the most popular cocktails worldwide, but Hawaii’s Li Hing Mui version adds a flavor you won’t find anywhere else!

I wish I was back in Hawaii and that drink sounds awesome. We lived there for four years and my husband stationed at Subase Pearl from 1070 to 1075, our children enjoyed it so much. They are not kids anymore, I get most of the stuff for them. My daughter is 62 and son is 58, I am 81.we all love what you offer and hope I can continue to do this.
