5 Ways to Use Li Hing Mui Powder
PC: Country Shave Ice
1. As a shave ice topping. No matter what flavors you choose, Li Hing sprinkled on top is a winner!! Check out Country Shave Ice in Kaimuki. They make organic syrups, so we can feel a little better about eating one of our favorite treats.
2. Sprinkled on top of fruit. Li Hing Mui powder on top of pineapple, oranges, or really any fruit is to die for. If you haven’t tried it yet, you’re in for a treat. The saltiness of the Li Hing Mui really brings out the sweetness of the fruit. Seriously, a great combo.
3. Mixed with your favorite snack. Making popcorn? Sprinkle some Li Hing on that. Your imagination is your only limitation. We’ve seen it sprinkled on arare, cuttlefish, and even poke. Yes you heard that right, poke. If you're wondering what that tastes like, head on over to The Hub in Kalihi.
4. Make your own Li Hing flavored candy. We love Li Hing Gummy Bears, but when you buy them prepackaged there never seems to be enough Li Hing powder. That’s because the saltiness of the powder will turn gummy candy into a melted mess. If you make it yourself and eat it right away, that won’t be a problem. Go nuts and add as much powder as you like.
5. Li Hing Margaritas. No matter where you are, a Li Hing Margarita transports you back to Hawaii where waves are gently lapping at the shore and coconut fronds are rustling in the breeze. A nice twist on this classic is the Lilikoi Li Hing Margarita. Tart, sweet, and salty. Yum!
